How Ministries of Grace Is Transforming Lives in Dawson County

At Ministries of Grace, our work is not driven by trends or popularity. It’s fueled by something deeper—the Word of God. Scripture calls us, time and again, to care for those in need. And when we say yes to that call, we’re not just offering help. We’re honoring God.

Serving the poor isn’t just a part of our mission. It is our mission. It’s rooted in Scripture, modeled by Jesus, and empowered by the Holy Spirit. From the prophets to the early church, God’s heart for the vulnerable has never changed—and neither should ours.

The Mandate of Scripture

God’s Word speaks clearly and consistently about caring for the poor. Proverbs 14:31 reminds us, “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” In Isaiah 1:17, we’re told to “learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.”

These are not suggestions. They are commands.

Throughout the Old Testament, we see God commanding His people to care for the vulnerable. And when Jesus stepped onto the scene, He didn’t soften that message—He intensified it. In Matthew 25, He makes it crystal clear: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Serving the poor isn’t something extra. It’s essential. It’s how we live out our faith.

Jesus: The Ultimate Example

If you want to understand what it looks like to serve others, look at Jesus. He met people where they were. He fed the hungry, healed the broken, spoke with the outcast, and stood up for the oppressed. He washed feet. He wept with the grieving. He walked alongside the hurting.

Jesus didn’t serve from a distance. He entered the mess. He drew near.

That’s the example we follow at Ministries of Grace. Whether we’re delivering meals to families in crisis or equipping someone with job training, we do it as Jesus did—with compassion, humility, and love.

Serving with Joy, Not Obligation

Sometimes people ask, “Isn’t it overwhelming to work with so much need?” And while the work can be heavy, it’s never hopeless. That’s because we don’t serve out of guilt—we serve out of gratitude.

We’ve been given so much in Christ. Grace. Mercy. Redemption. Hope. And the natural response to that kind of abundance is to give it away. Not reluctantly. Joyfully.

2 Corinthians 9:7 says, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Serving the poor isn’t a burden. It’s a blessing.

A Heart That Mirrors God’s

When we serve those in need, we reflect the very heart of God. Psalm 68:5 calls Him “a father to the fatherless, a defender of widows.” James 1:27 tells us that “religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…”

This isn’t just a verse we quote—it’s a reality we step into every day.

Let’s face it, as adults we make some pretty bad choices. And yes, every one of them has consequences—some immediate, others long-term. Some seem to only affect us, but the truth is, they ripple out into the lives of our families, especially our children.

That’s the story for Maria and Maggie. These two precious girls have lived their whole lives without stability, bouncing between tents, motels, and shelters. Their childhood has been marked by homelessness, uncertainty, and the heavy burden of caring for one another while the adults in their lives faced legal consequences for past decisions.

Maria, who lives with autism and a rare genetic condition, has special medical needs. Maggie, her sister, carries the weight of responsibility far beyond her years. In their world, childhood has been replaced with survival.

Even when one parent tries their best to provide a better life, the weight of years of instability is a steep mountain to climb. But when Ministries of Grace steps in, everything changes.

A hot meal delivered to their door isn’t just nourishment—it’s relief. It’s hope. It’s a breath of fresh air in a life full of tension and unpredictability. And it’s made possible by people like you.

The children we serve today are the leaders, parents, and decision-makers of tomorrow. If they continue in cycles of instability, the community suffers for generations. But when they experience love, care, and consistency, they begin to believe in something better. They begin to change.

It takes more than food to change a future—but food is often where hope begins.

Will you be a child’s champion this year? It costs over $8,000 annually to support just one family. Ministries of Grace is helping over 350 families—and 53% of them move forward to more stable situations. Imagine how much more we could do with your support.

Every dollar matters. Every act of service counts. And every child deserves a different story.

This is what drives everything we do at Ministries of Grace. Psalm 68:5 calls Him “a father to the fatherless, a defender of widows.” James 1:27 tells us that “religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…”

When we give, love, and advocate for the vulnerable, we are mirroring the heart of our Father. We’re stepping into His character. We’re becoming the hands and feet of Christ.

This is what drives everything we do at Ministries of Grace.

You Can Say Yes Too

This call isn’t just for pastors or nonprofits. It’s for all of us. Whether you’re donating a meal, volunteering your time, or praying for a struggling neighbor, you are stepping into the story God is writing.

When you say yes to serving the poor, you’re saying yes to God’s heart. And you’re helping create a world that looks more like His Kingdom.
